Sir James' successful career as a lawyer began with a strong academic background. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Davidson College in 1975 and a Juris Doctor from Wake Forest University School of Law in 1978. After becoming licensed to practice law, he became an associate at Hudson. Petree, Stockton, Stockton, and Robinson. He later became a partner in Hendrick, Cocklereece, Zotian, and Robinson, PLLC, as well as a partner in Robinson and Lawing, PLLC. He achieved an AV rating by Martindale Hubble Law Directory, the highest rating bestowed on practicing lawyers.
Among Sir James' many accomplishments after shifting from his legal career to life coaching, he has written and published 13 books, including "Thriving in the Legal Arena: The Ultimate Lawyer's Guide for Transforming Stress into Success," which showcases his thoughtful approach to helping professionals recover from and learn to avoid burnout The book was awarded the 2024 International Lifetime Impact Award.
